Anyone else have this problem when trying to remember hiragana?

Whenever i try to remember な ,け and た i automatically think they all make a “T” sound since they all kind of resemble T’s in Latin alphabet, i also sometimes confuse み with a “H” sound

  1. Hiragana and katakana should be learnt as soon as possible when you start learning Japanese. Just keep practicing and especially read a lot until the different nuances are engraved in your brain. Don’t worry if you still struggle a bit with some characters, with time you will have the hang of it! Good luck!

  2. Well, た does make a “ta” sound. It even kind of looks like “ta”. There are definitely a few false friends, though. I remember learning む/も and having to keep telling myself “mo” is NOT the one with the “o” in it. In katakana you’ll find a few more false friends: エ e not I, ナ looks like け or て but makes na, ノ has fewer strokes than ン but ン is -n and ノ is no. Check out Hiragana Pro/Katakana Pro on the appstore if you’re interested, they’re simple apps to help learn the kana. It took me about a week for each at a very casual pace.
