engineering: college level preparation before moving?? any tips?

My dad works in a Japanese company at pretty much a very high position and knows the job market/recruitment process well. I am going to college for mechanical engineering in July and as per my dad and my own general research, Japan/Korea are one of the best places to look for jobs right now.

As a college student, what can I do right now to increase my chances of finding a high-paying job in Japan? What kind of internships, projects, and clubs should I look for? I have been considering partnering with electrical and CS students to make a robotics club and participate in competitions?

I just want a job I can be passionate about before returning to school for my masters, preferably something where I’m making a significant difference in the world (I’m aware how naïve that sounds, just humour me for a second).
