  1. Expo 70 Commemorative Park (Banpakukinenkoen)

Huge park with art and play areas for kids
Huge shopping mall nearby to shop, eat, and recharge.
Has some cool shops/exhibits such as Nifrel (mini-art aquarium thing? It’s hard to describe).
Might be a nice change of pace?

FYI: the park is closed on Wednesdays

  2. I would skip the Umeda Sky Building. It’s cool in pictures but underwhelming and not worth it. Go to Abeno Harukas for a better view and swing by Shinsekai instead. Shitennoji is also nearby and it’s as impressive as anything in Kyoto or Nara but without the crowds.

Edit: spend the extra day in Kyoto. Maybe go to Uji. You could also take the kids out to Lake Biwa for a swim that day, they might get templed-out.
