Traveling to Japan for the First Time, overwhelmed by the transportation options

Hello! We will be visiting Tokyo with my fiancee on May the 1st. I’ve been doing my research on the transportation beforehand. It has been a few hours and I have some questions I couldn’t find answers for.

We will be staying in Tokyo most of our 10 days stay. Only in one of the day we will visit Hirosaki castle so we reserved that day for going to aomori and coming back to Taito.

1- I see that 14 days JR pass is too expensive at least on the official website and it seems it can’t be used for some lines in Tokyo too. I’m planning to use Suica or Pasmo mainly and buy shinkansen ticket for aomori seperately, does this sound logical? There are too many different transportation companies in Japan and I couldn’t figure out if Suica will be enough in Tokyo in all cases or not.

2- When I check the shinkansen tickets on JR East’s website, it seems there are two different ticket types: “Super (Limited) Express Train” and “basic fare ticket”. Should we pay for both to travel from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori?

Thanks in advance!
