Third day in Kyoto vs. a day in Nara?

Hi there! My partner and I are trying to decide between seeing some of the shrines and temples in Kyoto we have not yet seen vs. doing a day trip to Nara. Looking for a recommendation here on which is more worthwhile. Thank you!
