Overtime rules in Japan (office has asked me to work 26 days straight without a holiday)

I have been working on this project of my IT company past 1 year and the Project is about to Go live in May (next month). So far, my office has never asked me to work Overtime, however, they asked me to work on this coming weekend (6-7 Apr), I obliged and said OK as it was a first time. However, now they asked me to work during Golden week too, to be precise they have asked me to work from 15th April to 10th May, which is 26 days of regular work. I said No, but they came back with excuses such as Customer requirement, project criticality etc. With no choice left and based on my personal career circumstances I said OK for this. Of course, I will be either paid for Overtime or can take a Compensatory off for the these days.
However, I wanted to know if this is legal for a company in Japan to ask an employee to work these many days without a leave?
And how can I deny to my company next time if it happens?
Edited:
Since the Overtime allowance which I will be paid for these extra days of work will be equivalent to my monthly salary, I would prefer the money rather than Comp offs as I already have 22 Leave in my Leave balance which I plan to take later this year. Is there any rule which will restrict me to choose comp off over money?
