Reporting/suing discriminatory landlords

This is a hypothetical scenario and it’s not something I’m going to do anytime soon, but I want to know just in case. I also know probably nothing will come of it if I do it, but that’s not my question nor the point of this post.

Let’s say I’m looking for an apartment, I go visit one, then the agent makes the famous phone call to the landlord to ask if they’re okay with renting to a foreigner. Then the teeth-sucking happens, and I’m rejected. Or I don’t get rejected automatically but a bit later during the screening. In any case, let’s imagine I want to report/sue the landlord because I have the time and money and am feeling a bit feisty that day:

* Where exactly do I file a report? What’s the authority? Can I do it on my own or do I need a lawyer?
* What information about the landlord am I required to provide for the report to be accepted, and how do I secure that information? At the very least, I suspect I need to know the name, address, and phone number of the landlord, but that’s usually not revealed until the contract signing, so I wonder…
* Would a recording (video/audio) of the interaction serve as any kind of proof at any stage? They may try to claim they rejected me for a valid reason and not because I’m a foreigner, so I suspect proof of that will be needed as well.

Does anyone have any insights? I’d appreciate to know them.

Thanks!
