I have a question on a specific point, but I can’t seem to find an answer anywhere, sorry if I missed something.
I am a French CS engineer, and I am currently working from home. I would really like to move to Japan in the next few years, and my boss (small company) is totally okay for employing me through an Employer of Record, so I am trying to figure out how this could work.
If I understand well, an EOR would require me to already live in Japan to sponsor my work visa. What are my options here? Do I need to apply to a student visa, or a working holiday visa (or even the new digital nomad visa), so I could convert it to a work visa with an EOR?
Or am I totally missing something, such as an EOR that could take care of the relocation?
Also, my wife is going to do the same process, so if one of us had a work visa and took the other with a dependant visa, would the other be able to transform this dependant visa to a work visa through an EOR?

Sorry if I am completely misunderstanding the process, this initial step is really fuzzy for me. It seems a bit weird to have to “bounce” visa, and I want to do this the proper way.
