Starting a company in Osaka – Startup / Business manager Visa

I’m considering launching a tech company in Osaka. Meaning getting a visa through the city of Osaka.

I visited Osaka twice. I Liked the vibe of the city but it’s still hard to have an opinion about living there.

Main reasons for moving there:

* Cost of living seems cheap
* The city of Osaka openly wants the type of business I’m proposing (sport related tech business)
* People have a reputation of being more hustle oriented

Main apprehensions about moving there:

* Small community of entrepreneurs ?
* Less english friendly than a bigger city ?

How is creating a business there ? Can you expand easily once you start from Osaka ? Are people open to working with foreigners ?

  1. I was part of a startup in Osaka. I have found Osaka to be a great place to live. At our peak, we had about 25 employees. Most were bilingual. You will pay a bit more for that talent, though. Also, leasing office space can be a challenge without a financial track record. Occupancy rates are high, so landlords are choosy. Make sure you understand Japanese employment law or hire someone who does. We did well until we got stung by Covid and the energy crisis. Feel free to dm me if you’d like. I still live in Osaka.

There is only one bigger place, and it’s Tokyo/Yokohama.
