Trying to find some more interesting places for 2×3 month stay (already went one time before)

Hi guys

I went to Japan last November and I had an amazing time. The plan is to go back next October to stay for 3 months, then explore some other parts of Asia and go back in the spring for another 3 months.

Last time I went, I visited Tokyo, Takayama, Kyoto and Koya-san, so there is still plenty to see.

So there are two places that I will visit again:

– Takayama, this will probably be my first stop, to fully enjoy the atumn colours and hike in Kamikochi. I really, really fell in love with that place.
– Tokyo, could be my second stop, explore the lesser known parts of the city and its surroundings, maybe do a language course, enjoy some more live music in Shimokita, …

Places that I’m not going back to:

– Kyoto, wasn’t my vibe, felt more crowded than Tokyo, and more touristic
– Koyasan, had an amazing time but one temple stay is enough to see everything there is to see there.

Then there are places that are on my list since last time that I haven’t visited yet:

– Osaka
– Kanazawa
– Hiroshima

I’m saving Kyushu and Okinawa for my Spring trip.

I would love to get some more recommendations on some other cities or villages or nature reserves, hidden gems, off the beaten path.

There is also the option to spend December in Hokaido although I’m not sure how much I can get out of it since I can’t ski or snowboard haha.

So any tips, recommendations or experiences are very welcome and appreciated!

Cheers!
