  1. There used to be an A&W in Kamiyacho, Tokyo but it closed around 2000. I wish they’d come back.

  2. A&W is the only major fast-food chain in the United States to be owned entirely by franchisees, since the 2011 sale from Yum! Brands to A Great American Brand, LLC., which is mostly under the control of the National A&W Franchisee Association (NAWFA).

  3. What’s funny is A&Ws are super rare in the states.

Though, for non-American tourists I think A&W provides a pretty authentic taste of mid-century Americana. I can see why it’s so popular.

  4. A&W in Okinawa is like most American brands in Japan…they are usually better here than in the U.S. There were A&W’s on the bases here in Okinawa before and the sucked big time. Burger King is on the bases and they suck in comparison to the off base ones as well. The off base A&W’s are much better, along with the drive in experience at several of them around the island.

  5. They actually have decent mashed potatoes and gravy which KFC sadly does not.

  6. Root beer refills sign me up. I used to be a baito at the Chatan branch and make myself triple melty rich’s for lunch. Good times.
