I am German, and my boyfriend is studying in Germany. We met when he needed someone to help him learn the language. Fast forward, he’s at a good level to communicate by now. He picked up my dad calling my mum “Schatzi”. It feels like being called “Poopsie” or something (I guess. I am not to familiar with English pet-names either xD)
The best way I can think of to explain to him why it’s weird is to tell him it’s like as if I would call him “…” in japanese. So, are there even any nicknames like that in Japan? O.o
