Wanting to hear peoples thoughts on the state of the ML/AI industry in Japan (non-research roles). I’m from Australia but am currently doing an internship for a lesser-known AI company in Tokyo remotely from home as a MLE (computer vision mainly) and would potentially like to work as an MLE fulltime (in Tokyo) when I graduate my bachelor’s.
Here are my questions:
\* Is a masters or phd a hard requirement in ML or is a bachelors and experience sufficient?
\* What is the normal salary range for people in the field? (Have already checked opensalary with not much luck so just looking for anecdotes now)
My plan right now is to hope for a return offer from my current company (even if the salary is low) and keep working a couple years in Tokyo to gain more experience. The ML industry in Australia is very non existent whereas quite decent in Tokyo so that’s why I’m looking to move there. How does this plan sound?
The US is out of the question. I’ve accepted it will be basically impossible to move there without a masters/phd/many many years of experience.
I have N2.
