Hello! As the title says, I’m looking for tips in building an IT career in Japan.
For context, I am going to graduate in an IT degree next month (from a top university in Southeast Asia). And I have already set plans to move to Tokyo at April 2025 for language school as I am really eager to learn Japanese and aim for N2 – N1. I have been learning Japanese for about a year now so I also have a bit of language background.
With this, it is my goal to build my career in IT in Japan. However, since I would be a new graduate, I was wondering what my chances are in landing a job in IT? (Of course, assuming that I already have N2 by the end of my language schooling)
I have taken several internships here and there (mostly involving myself in analyst and product development programs). I don’t think it would be wise for me either to take a full-time job in as soon as I graduate, just to leave the company for less than a year since I’d be moving to Japan by April next year. (Unless, this is still a good idea then I’d be open to hear your thoughts)
I was thinking that maybe for the mean time, I could focus on building my own dev projects, take on certifications and internships to build my skills and experience in IT. However, I also wanted to get your thoughts about this.
To add: I really am set to moving in Japan. I’m well aware about how work culture isn’t as nice as it seems, but I’m still really eager to live and start a career there. Living conditions here in my country is mentally draining and toxic. I have already experienced living in Japan for a few months too. I know for myself that I’m passionate for this path.
TLDR; I’m an IT fresh graduate that will be moving to Japan next year for language school but won’t have enough time to experience a full-time job (hence, I remain an entry-level). Hoping to land a job in IT, what are some tips that could increase my chances?
