So basically, I’m graduating college this semester (spring 2024) and planning on applying to law school the next application cycle, which means I would need to be back for the fall 2025 semester.
I want to take a gap year and chill/live in Japan from around the time I graduate until about the time I would leave to start law school (about a year). I’m not looking for a career, so I don’t mind ALT/eikaiwa jobs with no room for career growth. Since I’m planning on going to law school and just want to have some work experience in japan/a little bit of chill time between undergrad and higher education I don’t mind if the wages are low.
I’m hoping to do some kind of international law between america and japan (don’t laugh) so my major is in Japanese language/literature. I can speak/read/type/(can’t write kanji) Japanese pretty well but definitely not native level (for reference, I barely passed the N3 two years ago, can pass the N2 easily now, but planning on taking and hopefully passing the N1 in July). I don’t know if this matters at all for the kind of job I’m looking for though.
I’m curious if anyone has tips for getting some kind of job? I’ve been looking around on Gaijinpot, but the vast majority of jobs are only for people that already have a valid work visa in Japan. I have a friend that works at a recruiting agency and she said she’d have some recruiters take a look at my resume but I haven’t heard back yet.
Also, I just finished studying abroad at Kyoto University so I’m still in Japan on a student visa. Is there any merit to looking for jobs in person or is it better to just continue looking online?
This post ended up being way longer than I expected but thanks for reading! Any help/advice is super appreciated! Thank you~
