Possible to use suica from Kyoto to Himeji?

I’m a little confused right now by the different options to get to Himeji from Kyoto. I wanted to buy the 1-Day JR Kansai Area Pass recommended on Japan-guide.com but it doesn’t let me access the jr website, claiming it’s harmful for some reason. So I was thinking of taking one of the JR special rapid trains (shinkaisoku) costing 2310 Yen? Do I need to buy a ticket anywhere for these or can I use my suica? Thank you in advance!

  1. Yes, you can take a normal express train (not Shinkansen) the whole way, I did this a few weeks ago. It costs about 2200 yen and takes 2-2.5 hours. You don’t need a special ticket you can just tap on an off they way you would any other train or subway.

  2. Both of those cities are within the JR West service area and it’s under 200 km, thus you can use an IC card for it.

  3. We did this few days ago. Just take the Tokaido special rapid Train (Not the Shinkansen!) from Kyoto Station to Himeji. Works with the suica card and costs about 2300yen for one way
