Regardless of results, it’s pretty great that Windy City Riot felt like a marked step up from New Japan’s previous western PPVs.

Almost every time they’ve come to the west so far, regardless of the quality in the ring, the shows have been notorious for feeds cutting out, horrible mic’ing, shoddy camerawork and technical difficulties up the arse.

I’m not sure whether it’s because this was airing in TV Asahi in Japan (so maybe they managed to actually bring the main Japanese crew over), but minus some smaller issues in the sound production, everything felt like a notable step up on this PPV, which I think does a great job for the shows’ main goal of getting new, foreign eyes on New Japan.

It really allowed the in-ring action to shine, and I feel like a lot of the feedback I’ve seen so far showed that. Instead of top comments all flooding about production issues or streaming issues, it’s all either about the results, or simply praising the great talent of those involved. Which is surprisingly refreshing for a western NJPW PPV.
