Hey all, so I’m feeling pretty dejected after receiving the, “we regret to inform you,” email and was hoping to get at least an idea of what may not have worked about my application. If I could just get some general advice about issues with my SOP or the rest of the application I’d be extremely appreciative.
For context, I am a Caucasian 23 year old male, graduated from Tulane University in August 2023 with a 3.0 gpa in Political Science. I listed on the application that I have experience volunteering overseas (in Northern Ireland) for a few weeks, that I am currently working towards receiving my Level 5 TEFL Certification (I’m about a month out from finishing), and that I have no functional understanding of the Japanese language.
Looking at other posts, it seems that talking about Japanese exports in the SOP is a big mistake. I talked about Akira Kurosawa in mine and tried to connect it to how I want to eventually find a career in entertainment law, and how his films were an inspiration for that.
Any insights or observations would be great to receive. Thanks.
