Campfire Ghost Stories for Kids

I love ghosts and ghouls and even youkai. I try to pass that love down to my kids (they are half Japanese and half American growing up in Japan). They love Halloween, ghosts, monsters, and especially youkai.

In the summer I take them camping together with our friend’s family. Last year all the kids were sitting around the campfire, and after a few too many drinks and in my understandable but simple (somtimes mistaken) conversational Japanese, I told them a classic ghost story I heard on a comedy anime, years ago (probably GTO). They absolutely LOVED it, and my Japanese wife and friends were all impressed as well that I was able to tell an interesting story in a second language in a fun and spooky way that many Japanese people wouldn’t be able to do.

Anyway, I was just wondering if you knew any not so scary ghost stories for kids that I could use.

I will write a short version of the one I used that was a hit.

Salaryman walking home on a dark windy night buys a box of shumai from a mysterious street vendor. After a chilling breeze and eerie sound he opens the lid to find one missing. Continuing on his way home the same scenario happens again and again, each time another shumai missing from the box. Down to the last shumai he was worried he would be next. He opens the box one last time to find the last one gone, and GASP!!! He notices that all of the shumai were sticking to the top of the lid… (hahaha)

tldr; please tell me some simple, not-so-scary, ghost stories for kids (preferably relateable for kids growing up in Japan)
