I wanted to add a short review of Mobal physical data sim during our 16 days trip (29/3 – 13/4).
I ordered the sim on the 29th of Feb and received it within two weeks via registered post (16-day plan, free shipping, price: ¥6,490). I wanted to use the data sim in a separate phone to be used as a pocket Wi-Fi device, as not everyone in the family had an e-sim capable phone. In addition, it allows instant connectivity when you land, and also saves the battery life when using Wi-Fi instead of mobile data on each connected device. As you use the sim in your own device, there is no need to deal with returning the pocket Wi-Fi, which is a minor convenience.
The data allowance for the sim was 3 gb / day, which was more than enough for our group of three. The connection speed (4G LTE) was excellent throughout the trip. Setup instructions were clear, and I setup the sim before traveling and the internet worked instantly once the phone was booted after landing at Narita airport.
We lost some connectivity briefly during some parts of Shinkansen trips but overall it was very reliable in all areas: Tokyo, Disneyland, Disneysea, Mt. Fuji, Nagoya, Ghibli Park, Kyoto, Yoshino, Himeji, Hiroshima, Osaka, USJ. Overall a very satisfying experience.
