Money stuck in PayPay

Hi everyone.

I’m having issues with Paypay. So I put 40,000 yen into paypay via ATM top off. I then applied to verify my identity because I realized I won’t be able to spend all the money because i’m moving back to the US on April 22nd. I applied to verify my id so I can send my money to the bank. I didn’t realized that my My Number was expired and they locked my account. I can’t spend or send money. I don’t have time to apply for a new one. I have an updated zairyu card but I think they don’t take that. No drivers license either. My japanese isn’t that good so I can’t call them. I thought about using a friends address to order a new one but I think I have to go in person to get it. Is there any way to get my money out or spend it? Or am I out of luck.
Thank you for any help!

  1. Since you topped up from ATM, it’s considered “money lite” and cannot be transferred back to a bank etc (I believe this is due to government anti money laundering regulations). Verify or not it won’t make a difference to that 40k, you’ll just have to spend it or send it to friends

As far as your account being locked is concerned, I can’t help there sorry. Not much you can do without a MyNumber card

  2. Funds added to your account before verification becomes “lite” and cannot be withdrawn, regardless of the top-up method, or if you verify your identity later.

  3. meet someone in person who will buy the credit off you.

I’ll buy it for 37500 if you are in tokyo and come to me

  4. You probably should have verified your ID when you first signed up for PayPay. Government regulations regarding foreigners and financial services are very strict, so ID verification is required by all financial institutions to get full access. It’s a pain but it’s required. If you can still use PayPay for purchases then go on a shopping spree before you leave. If not, then contacting customer service is your only other option.

  5. PayPay is annoying as fuck

My number expired due to visa backlog
Now I need to have my new one 90 days before it verifies, stupid system.

My city hall in Tokyo told me they couldn’t help me
Moved to Chugoku and the city hall now told me the slip of paper saying you’ve an auto extension for processing will allow for your my number to be extended, Tokyo crowd told me nothing could be done

  6. You’ve about 3 weeks to spend the money and paypay is almost everywhere. I think your time would be better used figuring out where to spend it. Just eat at places with Paypay and use it every time. Spend the rest on omiyage for your friends back home. Or just grab stuff for yourself to bring back.

  7. How long does it take to get a new mynumber card? I think you still have time to get it before 22nd and send this credit to a friend in exchange for cash

  8. That sounds like a typical PayPay move. I only still use them because of Yahoo Auctions. I try every time to not use them. PayPay is bad. Terrible customer service. Do not recommend.
