  1. If schools and BOEs had adequate funding to bring in additional staff/coaches to take over the JHS after school club activities, rather than dumping that responsibility onto the teachers, they might find that less people quit out of pure exhaustion.

  2. “Teaching sucks and I want to get out” seems to be a theme common to Japan and the US right now, albeit for somewhat different reasons. Can’t blame the teachers / potential teachers in either case. If job advertisements were forced to be realistic, the number of teaching licenses would probably be even lower than now.

    Actual advert: “Do you want to stimulate the minds of the next generation and see that they get the intellectual skills to become whatever they want to be?”

    Factual advert: “Do you want to spend the significant majority of your time at work, being belittled by parents, scorned by kids, and having to do menial tasks for the 58-year old guy who sits next to you because you’re younger than he is?”
