Do Japanese people use every single part of a food ingredient?

Hello Reddit. I’m not a member, but I’m asking for the sake of researched. I found 2 characters from Japanese media that have philosophies in cooking and use every single thing from a food ingredient. For example, when you peel a potato, you can use the skin to make another dish or toppings, or wipe mirrors with (I found out about that part a few years ago. The most popular character that I know that uses this philosophy is Sanji from One Piece, especially if you consider his [speech about wasting food](https://youtu.be/1hQ7QoszpEA?si=fms1RUzI4DrkMGAR). Another character that I personally know is Velvet from Tales of Berseria. I found a (https://youtu.be/4AJ8RmZQ69Q?si=izC4jXkDyLKC9SI4) of her explaining the various uses of the water you use to wash rice, and I found out about the potato skin part from her.

Did Japanese people use this philosophy historically? And do they use it now? Did they even create it? I’m asking because I’ve created a character who is Japanese inspired, and is a prodigy in cooking.
