Long story short, I’m a non-permanent resident living in Japan and need to file 5 years worth of Japanese taxes that I didn’t think I needed to file due to ignorance. I sold all of my U.S. mutual funds last year, but haven’t remitted it yet.
I’ve gone through all the statements and tax forms and collected all the numbers, however I can’t get the costs broken out by acquired dates because it just says “Various”. What happens if my U.S. broker won’t provide me a report with everything itemized properly? Like on the Japan side, if the NTA contacts me and I can’t provide information, what happens?
It’s my own fault, but I have to apply for a spouse visa in a few months and I’m scrambling to get this fixed. At this point I’m just ready to give them all my gains if it means not being deported as I have a 1 year old son.
Edit: Added clarification.
