Is Onyomi written in Katakana?

Hi, I was learning kanji for my first time and I had this letter 日 the sun/day kanji, the instructor explained the difference between Onyomi and kunyomi and gave us some examples for kunyomis of the sun/day kanji ひ, か and sometimes び and it was written in hiragana, but when he gave us examples for Onyomi that was it ジツ and 二チ (nichi) the first problem is when he wrote jitsu in Katakana my initial thought is “Ahhhh then kunyomi is written in hiragana and Onyomi is written in hiragana” which was totally wrong the second problem is I don’t read kanji so I don’t know what is the meaning of 二チ or how can I read it ( but he said that it is read “nichi” like that ), so what I want to know, Is Onyomi written in Katakana?, and if yes why it was written in kanji in this example is it a special case? And my last question if one Onyomi is written in kanji does that mean when I mean it I mean the kanji of it ( I mean for example for this kanji 日 when it’s pronounced nichi does that mean that it means the meaning of these two kanjis together ( ニ I think this means two so when the sun/day kanji is pronounced nichi does that mean that it means two of this チ ) ).
