So me (26m) and my gf (22f) are British Canadians . We had a very eventful fortnight leading up to me proposing to her in Kyoto. We have driven this whole tour starting from Tokyo in April beginning without problems
We avoided toll roads coming back by going through countryside roads. Saturday night we were on our way back few hours prior to reaching Tokyo, & we had an accident. It would seems an old woman is badly hurt. Our car veered in some gravel and hit her as a bystander. We were not really fast, around 50kmph, and this is a bad luck case of losing control in a bend.
Police have taken my UK passport. I am still staying at my hotel. I have contacted our embassy but i cannot leave the country right now as per local police.
It is unfortunate and we truly are sorry for the old lady. But we want to get back to home turf before things go any worse. What are our options? Help!
**Edit**: i am finding it hard to respond with this poor internet. Maybe something with this account i dunno.
We are awaiting further instructions. But we are hopeless and confused. We regret this situation has happened – but without a support system i don’t even know if law will be fair. Any advice will help. We are okay with one time compensation to the family.
