My partner and I are both British and unmarried – expecting our first child next week. Today in the ward office the staff suggested it would be a big problem to register the child’s father on the birth certificate (Shusshou Todoke Juri Shomei Sho). Has anyone done this successfully? What extra paperwork did you need to provide if so?
