Hi friends!
I was wondering if I could get an itinerary or route check for this little excursion part of our big 35 day trip to Japan in October. I was considering renting a car, and my boyfriend and I driving through this part of our trip. I did see there are trains from Kanazawa to Takayama and to Gero Onsen, but thought we might have some more freedown this way to explore and also make it easier to do Shirakawa-go and surrounding areas.
I was wondering if you had any feedback or suggestions for other stops along this route! Or ways to improve it.
This would be starting in Kyoto and ending in Kyoto
This is high level as I am still working through our overall itinerary, I’d be fine adding a night or two as well to one of these locations if it makes sense
**Itinerary:**
Day 1: Take Thunderbird Limited Express from Kyoto to Kanazawa. Visit Kenrokuen and Higashi-Chaya. Stay the night in Kanazawa.
Day 2: Pick up rental car and drive early out to Shirakawa-go, explore before crowds arrive for 3 hrs, explore surrounding areas, then drive to Takayama. Explore old town and then stay the night.
Day 3: Check out the morning markets, head over to Hida-Furukawa and explore. Then hit the road down to Gero Onsen. Stay the night in Gero Onsen
Day 4: Drive to Magome, explore Magome, hike the Nakasendo trail to Tsumago and stay the night Tsumago
Day 5: Explore Tsumago, then trek back to Magome to pick up car, drive to Gifu station to drop off car, then take a train back to Kyoto
Thanks all!
