Staying the Night at Narita Airport

After arriving at Narita airport, I was waiting for my flight to Sapporo (2 night stay before flying to Osaka).

I got the news that the flight has been cancelled for the evening, but there would be a flight at 5am, so they said be there (terminal 3) by 4am for check in. Later that evening, I got another text saying that the morning flight was cancelled due to weather.

Already late in the evening and I was already planning on staying the night for the early check in. I started to ask questions.

I have never stayed the night in an airport before.

1. There is a shower facility in Terminal 1, I believe on the 4th floor. Usually 1000 yen. When she asked about my flight, I said it was cancelled and I wanted to freshen up since I had just come from the US. She gave me a reduced price at 500 yen. Note: The last shower I believe was 8:30pm. You get a good sized bathroom with some items such as shaving razor and toothbrush. The time to take a shower is about 30 minutes.
2. I was told that everyone had to stay in Terminal 1. So I made my way there and found the lounge sofas, wiped them down and started laying there with my luggage.
3. Lights are dimmed, but they don’t totally shut off until 2am.
4. There was a good amount of people sleeping, many on the hard plastic individual seats.
5. Bathrooms are nearby and open.
6. There is a Lawson’s one floor below (basement). As usual, open 24hrs.
7. Security guards still walk do their rounds.

It wasn’t comfy, but it was an experience. Next morning, I had to activate my JR Pass (3 days advanced than I originally planned) and start heading towards Nagoya.
