Itinerary check: 12 days in July w/14-year-old

Hi, I’d love to get feedback on my itinerary for a father+son trip to Japan. Here’s the deal:

* It’s my 14yo’s 2nd time in Japan, but he was 5yo last time so he doesn’t remember much
* He likes to hike and walk around cities, and we’ve put in 40k steps/day on past trips
* We’re meeting family so I can’t control some of the itinerary.
* We both like climbing and would like to visit a few of Tokyo’s bouldering gyms

I appreciate your feedback and suggestions, and I have questions for specific days/places

* Sat 7/6: Hotel: Tokyo; Land in Haneda; probably just hotel check-in and dinner
* Sun 7/7: Hotel: Kyoto; Morning train to Osaka, couple of hours walking/eating in Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi, possibly Osaka Castle, meet family at Kyoto hotel
* Mon 7/8: Hotel: Kyoto; Take advantage of jet lag to get to Kiyomizudera early, meet family at Kinkakuji
* Tue 7/9: Hotel: Kyoto; Day trip to Nara – Nara Park, Todaiji, Kasuga Shrine
* Wed 7/10: Hotel: Toyama; mid-morning train to Kanazawa, lunch at station or Ohmicho Market, walk to Higashi Chaya, local train to Toyama
* Thu 7/11: Hotel: Midagahara; start Alpine Route in the morning, go to Kurobe Dam, do light hiking near Murodo
* Fri 7/12: (stay with family) Spend morning hiking, Shinkansen from Toyama to Nagano pref.
* Sat 7/13: (stay with family) \*unplanned, with family\*
* Sun 7/14: Hotel: Tokyo: Arrive in Tokyo midday, bouldering at B-Pump Akihabara, dinner at Yokohama Ramen Museum, Yokohama F. Marinos match
* Mon 7/15 (national holiday): Hotel: Tokyo; \*unplanned, with family friend\*
* Tue 7/16: Hotel: Tokyo; Day trip to Enoshima/Kamakura
* Wed 7/17: Hotel: Tokyo; Shibuya Sky, shopping at Hands/Loft/Donki, Harajuku, possibly bouldering at B-Pump Ogikubo
* Thu 7/18: Departure day; 3:45 pm flight from Haneda

I feel like I shouldn’t try to fit more activities into the first week with the jet lag and all, but we have room for more on the back end. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

A few questions:

* Any recommendation for sushi, ramen, or yoshoku near Shinagawa Station that wouldn’t require a wait (so probably not Kura Sushi) for the first night?
* I’d appreciate recommendations for casual, teen-appropriate restaurants in the Kanda area as well
* If we go to B-Pump Ogikubo in Suginami-ku, are there places worth stopping for food, or should we take the train back to Shinjuku?
* I’m not sure what we’ll do our last day. I plan to leave for Haneda around noon. Any recommendations on neighborhoods to explore that wouldn’t take us too far off our Kanda-Haneda transit?

Thank you in advance!
