Summer Festivals early July 2024

Hi! My friend will be in Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo mostly) July 3-13. We really wanted to go to a summer festival where people can wear yukatas, there are food vendors lining the streets, and fireworks at the end. From what I’ve read in other posts, they may not release the exact dates until closer to the festival so we can’t concretely plan yet. I had two questions for now:

1. Do most festivals usually entail fireworks, foodstalls, and people dressing up in yukatas (like what you see in anime/manga)? Or are those for specific festivals? I’m thinking of the Kamakura fireworks festival which is slated for July 12th. Does this festival solely consist of viewing fireworks or are there other activities?
2. If we’re in the general area of Tokyo/Kyoto during this time, are we likely to come across smaller-scale festivals that won’t be advertised online? As in, could we bank on not planning for a bigger festival, instead coming across one by chance?
