Hi, I have been in Japan since last year on a working holiday visa and found a job as an English teacher in an Eikaiwa. At that time, I had two offers from two different companies, both agreed to sponsor me a visa when my wh expires. I decided to go with the one where I’m working now and told them that I really will need the visa because which they agreed. Throughout the year I was one of their best teachers and I worked really hard for them and many times me and the boss talked about my situation and how we can speed up the process. My visa will expire in 3 months and unfortunately I need to return to my country in order to apply for the working visa. I wanted to go earlier, so I could apply and come back but they didn’t let me because they couldn’t afford closing the school for a week because of not having enough teachers to cover for me. So now, my visa is about to expire and my boss started recruiting new teachers to replace me because he said the company cannot afford to wait around 3 months for me because that’s how much a visa procedure can take. What can I do? I have it written in an email that they promised to sponsor my visa but I heard that companies don’t actually need to follow their promises. I really want to come back. I already built my life here. I have friends and a girlfriend and we have been so happy but we don’t want to get married yet just because of a visa. And I heard applying for teaching jobs outside of Japan is so hard and unlikely to succeed.
