I’m heading back to Japan for a week-long stay at the end of May after wrapping up business in Seoul. My previous trip in December was a blast, with Tokyo and Osaka offering a vibrant mix of modern and traditional vibes. This time around, I’m planning to mix things up with a motorcycle adventure. Has anyone here done it? I’m eager to know if it’s as enjoyable as it sounds, especially for reaching those hidden, traditional places off the standard tourist trail. I’ve got my paperwork in order, with an international driving license (Germany) and its Japanese translation at the ready.
I’m setting aside 2-3 nights for Kyoto, looking forward to the ryokan life, and will be making a side excursion to Nara with the Aoniyoshi Sightseeing Train.
Shikoku came up as a hot tip for motorcycling routes, and I’m intrigued. For my wheels, I’m planning to visit Rental819 Kyoto Chuo. Tackling the left-side traffic is definitely going to be a unique challenge, but I’m all for the philosophy that “the journey is the destination.” I can’t wait to uncover the charm of small, lesser-known locales.
After Kyoto, I’ll loop back to Osaka for another five nights, with Kobe earmarked for a day trip. I’m also debating whether to explore around Lake Biwa or take a southern spin towards Wakayama. Can anyone vouch for a coastal road with views that’ll make you want to ride forever?
Osaka won me over previously with its lively evenings and seamless transport links, so I’m choosing it again as my base for day trips. Despite the crowds, Kyoto had its own allure. I’m all ears for your seasoned traveler tips, hidden spots, and route recommendations to make this trip epic.
