Has anyone created an amazon account recently to get books and did it require phone number?
I’m wanting to avoid giving phone number before I know a non-Japanese phone number will work when purchasing books. If possible, I want to avoid giving phone number.
I have tried Honto and Bookwalker, both are good for account creation being easy. I have also purchased 2 books on Honto, what I don’t like is their reader app. I prefer using the dictionary app I have on my phone to look up words, but the reader app doesn’t allow such setting or copying words and I haven’t been able to find an option to change the search engine it uses either. I use Linux so I can’t try their PC app either and that’s why I want to switch to Amazon Kindle as I can use Calibre for it.
It would be pointless if giving non-Japanese phone number would make me unable to purchase Japanese books, I am using Japanese VPN.
