My wife leaves for work earlier than I do so the job of unlocking the community trash collection cage is mine. Preferably I should opened it at about 5am but I may not wake up at that time, so it’s okay to open it at around midnight. BUT I should not put out our trash at that time as someone might see and start talking. I will take our trash out at the correct time, between 5am and 8am. Last week I took the unburnable trash out at 8:45 but it had already been collected so turned around and took it back home. At our last place the trash was collected about 11am, not here.
We moved here full time this month, and have been slowly tidying things up. My first job as well as cleaning out old barns and unpacking was to clean up any vegetation that had overgrown our boundary and the weeds that had grown in the cracks in the concrete storm gutters with a brush cutter.
I was doing this last week around 10am on the main road when the fire siren went off and the loudspeaker from the town office mentioned a fire. 8 fire engines (some volunteer) went past and also two police cars. Turns out it was arson and the arsonist has not been found.
The local community leader was spoken to by the police and they were told I was working hard at the time (good alibi) and have been doing good work cleaning things up and they saw the now pristeen boundaries.
Hopefully I don’t fall asleep before unlocking the cage and can keep my reputation intact. First impressions count everywhere.
