Return to teaching or keep grinding things out.

Hello, this is my first post. I’m not sure where to seek advice for this.

I am currently in Japan on a Working Holiday Visa. I have 5+ years teaching experience in my home country, including ESL experience, a CELTA and an MFA. My Japanese is pretty bad (N4).

Originally I lived by the beach, had a chill job and a great set of friends. I spent my first few months working part-time at an eikaiwa. At first it was tough because I had to plan all my lessons but I quickly got the hang of it and enjoyed my time. I had great connections with my students and could see them progressing.

Recently I got my ‘dream job’ working for a top Japanese company in my creative field. I nearly didn’t accept the job because the salary is only 200,000 (This already includes overtime) but I decided to at least give it a go as it’s a unique and exciting opportunity.

I moved cities and started the job, but I feel empty inside. I have to work at least 11 hours a day and the days I’m not on location I am staring at a computer screen all day in a rigid office environment. I’ve already had some amazing opportunities and am getting published in some reputable magazines ect… but to be honest I don’t feel happy or sad: just nothing (if not exhausted). My boss said he will sponsor my visa but I honestly think it will be rejected based on my salary.

I’m tempted to quit and find a relaxed ALT job where I have a better work-life balance and slightly higher salary.

What would you do?

**TLDR:** Should I keep at my creative job or return to English teaching for work-life balance and a slightly higher salary?
