When I lived in central Tokyo I saw several shops that sold nothing but bags of rice. I would assume that a business like that could only exist in heavilly populated cities here since fewer people drive, which makes lugging a 5KG plus bag of rice back from the supermarket with the rest of your shopping inconvenient, and there are enough people within a 3 minute walk to make the business profitable. I haven’t seen any shops like that anywhere other than Japan.
Unstaffed frozen gyoza shops. Those would be stolen in an instant in the US
Tatami makers
Tofu shops
