Master’s at Tsukuba University this Fall!

I’ll be moving end of next month from California and getting closer to the moving date, more small worries have been popping up in my head, so I was wondering if ya’ll could alleviate some of these thoughts so I can be more excited about the move!

It’s the TSLI program (english course), focusing on bio/chem health. I’m pretty familiar with how a master’s and lab life is like in the US.

Here it goes:

1. Haven’t received updates from school for class schedules, starting lab, residential housing or any other school related things and classes start Oct 2. Is it normal for all this information to be posted so late? Is it feasible to live in student housing for a few months then find an apartment?
2. There is an entrance ceremony but I have no idea how they usually work, like should I even go and how to dress since when I search it up every girl looks they they are wearing the same clothes. (I’m 20’s F)
3. Not sure how much clothes to pack, since I don’t know if my clothes are sufficient for winter in Tsukuba, and for Japanese fashion differences.
4. It would be great if my parent(s) could come help me move but because of the covid restrictions, I’m not sure if it’s possible.
5. Issues in setting up my bank account, health insurances, and the other required government documentation.
6. I want to go to a gym in Japan and I’m thinking about joining Anytime Fitness in CA locally, and hope that carries over to Japan.
7. Wondering how the work/lab culture is in Japan for a master’s. What is expected of a student that might be different from a lab in the US?
8. I want to either bring or buy a pc/gaming laptop but not sure what’s the best option. Also, how is playing League in the Japan server?
9. Commuting around Tsukuba. I’ve visited other cities in Japan, but around the school seems more.. suburban? I guess I’ll need to improve my biking skills, or get a moped??
10. My cousin’s wedding in CA is a random weekend in December, and I would really like to attend. Is it possible/how/when to ask for a few days off.

Any advice will be gladly taken! Thank you for reading.
