I can’t believe this happened to me.
My car battery died a few days ago. I jump-started it and took it to Yellow Hat to get a new one. The cheapest was Â¥25,000 and the most expensive was Â¥33,000. I bought the latter on the staff’s recommendation as it had a three-year warranty (despite knowing that my previous battery lasted three years and three months).
This part was funny. He said it would take them an hour to get change out my battery. I asked if I could borrow a ratchet, and he said sure. I swapped out the battery in under ten minutes. He praised me for my speed and mechanical prowess as I returned the ratchet and the old battery.
I told a coworker today about what had transpired and he informed me that the same battery can be found on the world’s most popular shopping site for Â¥15,000, and that I could also have gotten Â¥1,000 if I’d taken the old battery to a scrapyard.
Tldr: I overpaid for a battery by about ¥20,000, and did all the dirty work myself.
