1. I support their independence.

   Tokyo treats them as vassals and non-Japanese proving they deserve independence.

2. I’ve studied Okinawa in great length but it still perplexes me on how willing some Okinawans are the grenade their security and economy. I do believe the Japanese military should assume primary defense in Okinawa with the US acting as a tripwire but even then many call for the removal of all bases. It literally is NECESSARY. It does not take a brain surgeon to figure out that Okinawa is being eyed by China, and lest they want to return to being a vassal state of China they should think of other solutions.

4. does this have anything to do with the army in the area?

   and if it does. what else do they propose to do against china when they decide to claim small islands that are incapable of defending themselves ?

5. 94 percent of those surveyed support the reversion itself but many are unhappy with how the reversion has gone. One of the main complaints is wanting the US military base to be further reduced. The headline reads to me like it’s leading readers to think 55 percent of Okinawans wish the reversion hadn’t happened. Maybe I read too much into it.
