I want to know your favorite train rides – beautiful scenery, great food, unique experiences – anything!
I use a cane and walking long distances is a challenge, so I thought that incorporating interesting train rides into my itinerary would be a great way to experience parts of Japan without constantly walking.
I discovered the Joyful Trains by JR East and would love to include the Gono Line from Aomori to Akita. I’m also very intrigued by the Kairi from Sakata to Niigata, the Resort View Furusato, the High Rail 1375 for the starry skies, and the Limited Express Kuroshio from Osaka around the coast.
I’d love your thoughts on including several of these types trains and any recommendations you have for lines that are or are not worth the effort. Some of these seem to stop or start in more remote stations so that may create challenges, though in at least one case it may also put us near a remote onsen which seems like an exciting bonus!
Edit to add – I’m planning an October/early November trip
