I lost my national health insurance card – do I need it to unregister when I leave Japan?

I am currently in Japan with a Working Holiday Visa and during a Trip to South Korea I lost my Wallet including my National Health Insurance card.
I am currently registered as a resident in Tokyo but am traveling around Kyushu until I leave Japan next month.
I just went to the regional city office of the city I am staying in right now but they told me they can’t reissue my NHI card because I am registered in Tokyo.
Now I don’t think I will need that card for my last month anyway but I read that when I unregister from Tokyo (which I plan to do via mail, so I won’t go back there before I leave and won’t be able to reissue my NHI card there) I need to send them a photocopy of my NHI card.
Will I be able to unregister anyway or am I forced to go back to Tokyo just to reissue my NHI card?
Technically I could unregister from Toyko as a resident via Mail now and then register as a resident for my current city and fix the problem that way but I feel like it’s not worth the hassle.
What should I do?
