What’s the psychology behind ぶつかり男? (Guys who shoulder barge people)

So I’ve been in Japan for a long time now and this has only happened to me once, last year walking in the station.
I was walking with my colleagues and this guy maybe in his 50’s, typical salary man made the point of smashing into me as he walked by.

I was in a suit and with my colleagues who are all super crusty and old like he was, working my big boy Japanese company job so it’s not even like I could have been mistaken as a tourist or anything. Also I’m white, and we know Japanese hate other Asians so it can’t be that.

He shoulder barged me pretty hard and my colleagues asked if I was okay. Besides my dignity I remained intact. He walked away really fast into the crowd. Whilst it would have been great to go after him and kick the shit out of him of course that would be silly and just be a lot of trouble for me.

It got me thinking. Why? Why do this?
I know anyone anywhere in the world has a bad day sometimes but the fact ぶつかり男 has it’s own Wikipedia page tells me this is a common thing. Is it for some sort of kick where they can feel tough for a second?
