My gf and I are going for a 45 day trip to Japan, and would like to do a 2 weeks road trip in Tohoku (from mid to end of October). We’ve made the following itinerary, and would love to hear other recommendation or advice.
*We’ll rent a car in Sendai on the third day
Day 1-2: Sendai –
Chill in the city, go to Matsushima bay, Shiogama
Day 3: Sendai -> Hiraizumi –
Rent a car, Genbeikei Gorge, Chusonji temple
Day 4: Hiraizumi -> Morioka –
Soba noodles challenge, Nanshoso Garden, Explore Morioka city
Day 5: Morioka -> Aomoriya Onsen –
Chill
Day 6: Hachinohe –
Morning Market, Then travel to Lake Towada, sleep nearby
Day 7: Towada -> Aomori City –
Nebuta Museum, Furukawa fish market, A-Factory
Explore the city
Day 8: Aomori City -> Hirosaki –
Visit Iwakiyama-jinja Shrine, Mount Iwaki
Day 9: Hirosaki –
Hirosaki Castle, Apple park
Explore the city
Now comes the part we’re less confident about…
Day 10: Hirosaki -> Oga –
??
Day 11: Oga -> Sakata –
Kakunodate
Day 12: Sakata -> Yamagata City –
Dewasanzan Shrines
Day 13: Yamagata -> Sendai –
Yamadera, then return the car in Sendai
