Zairyu card question

Hello everyone.

I am moving to Japan tomorrow.

I am wondering about the Zairyu card. Is the date of validity of the zairyu card the same as the one on the visa ? Or is it the length of stay on the disembarkation card ? I have a visa for 1 year and 3 months.

However, my return flight is in 11 months. I had to book a return flight. This flight will 100% be changed because it is before my university year is over. So, on the embarkation card, I put 11 months as my intended stay so it matches with what I put in MySOS app.

So I need my residency to be 1 year and 3 months.

Will it be the validity date stated on the visa ?

Many thanks

  1. Isn’t the return flight for MySOS required only if you are on short term visa?

Anyway, it should be what is written on your visa.

  2. My visa didn’t have a date on it, it just said “one year” — but the visa itself has a 2-3 month window where you have to enter with it initially. When I got my Zairyu it says “PERIOD OF STAY (DATE OF EXPIRATION)” with a date one year after my entry date.

I did not have to book a return flight (engineer visa).
