PR Fast-Track Points System

If I get a job with an employer located in Japan and move over on a standard work visa (STEM), I can still later use the PR Fast-Track Points System to potentially obtain PR faster, correct? I believe this answer is yes and that I just need to prove I’ve held the minimum required points for at least a year, but I want to be sure I don’t have to be there on the Highly-Skilled Professional visa.

Also, to calculate the salary related points, would long-term and ongoing contracting income from a foreign-based company/currency count in addition to my Japan-based job’s salary? Or does only JPY income from Japanese companies count? I’ve heard conflicting answers regarding this, since ultimately this is just to measure your economic input, which would include foreign income as well in most cases.

Thanks!
