eSim data recommendations

Hey everyone. I am looking for some eSim recommendations for my next Japan trip. I previously used Google Fiber which worked great and gave me a good sense of security for the unlimited data roaming in Japan while I was up there for the week but I can’t justify $70+ just for the month to have that service when I don’t travel often.

Some information, I will be in Osaka and Tokyo with some side trips into Hyogo (Kobe mainly), Kyoto, Yokohama and Chiba. Something that delivers consistency without disconnects as I will be using data really often to use Google Maps and listen to music. I may need to hotpot it here and there as I will be bringing a laptop this time in case I need it to book tickets to places or just browse around the internet as I wait for things.

I have looked into Unigi, Airalo, YOHO Mobile, Yesim, and MobiMatter. I have also read some reviews (good and bad) about Mobal and a few other eSim providers that are local to Japan only and don’t think I want the stress of getting an emailed code to scan and setup with issues on arrival as I am trying to leave the airport without fuss after getting through immigration and customs.

I know Ubigi seems to be the most popular option for people visiting Japan but 5G isn’t the biggest selling point I am looking for. Cost per GB and performance is what I am looking for.

If you have any experience with any of the listed above or would recommend something else, I am open to suggestions. Thank you.
