I’m thinking of accepting homestays

Hello.I am Japanese and have two children. I’m thinking of accepting homestays because I want to interact with foreign students and tourists. Which site should I register? Is it possible to accept them for a few days only, not for a long period of time?
Do international students want to interact with Japanese people?

  1. I did a home stay when I was at universityin the US. What I did was go to the international center and they hooked me up with a third party program that set up the homestays.

If you want to do homestays for students already in Japan, maybe contact a university and see if they offer any programs. If they don’t maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Edit: I mean I was a student in the US and I did I homestay in Japan when I studied abroad.

  2. Ask your city office if they have a 国際交流センター. If not, you can also ask a nearby university if they need host families. I hosted 2 kids who came from abroad for a few days till they settled down in their dorms.

  3. My 16 y/o is going to be visiting Japan (Chino) next Spring with his school band, and part of that is staying with a local family for a few days (I think it’s four nights).

I don’t know how the local Japanese families signed up for this, but I can say that international students (at least Americans) do want to interact with Japanese people.
