I’m making a history projects on imperial guards and their roles throughout history, I.E. the multiple assassinated emperors of Rome by the Praetorians, and I was wondering if the Japanese Emperor had an Imperial Guard during Edo period, and if so, who had power over them? The Emperor, or the Shogun?
