Do I have to get paper tickets to travel from Kyoto > Nagoya if I’m not planning to take the Shinkansen?

Hello! I’m still pretty confused with the whole system even after reading the threads and websites regarding the travel in Japan. I understand that Suica cards cannot be used to travel between regions so that means I have to get paper tickets to travel from Kyoto to Nagoya? Also, I’m not planning to get any tourist passes and only using Suica / paper tickets.

I used the JapanTravel app to map the route from Kyoto to Nagoya and there are about 2 transfers.

Kyoto > Maibara (JR Tokaido Sanyo Main Line New Rapid)

Maibara > Ogaki (JR Tokaido Main Line[Atami-Maibara])

Ogaki > Nagoya (JR Tokaido Main Line New Rapid [Atami-Maibara])

Does this mean I have to exit each of the transfer stations to get new paper tickets? Or is it possible that I use my Suica to tap out each of the transfer stations and tap in again?
